Commentary
And when he established with all of this what he had previously affirmed; of His might and wisdom; and it was established that He is capable of resurrection; it was established that He has might in the Hereafter; just as this was observed in this world; and the competition of people - especially the disbelievers - in might; was above their competition in wisdom; and whoever competes in wisdom, he only competes in it to gain might; and the disbelievers only worshipped idols to attain might through them; as He said: ﴿And they have taken besides Allah deities so that they would be for them a source of might﴾ [Maryam: 81]; he said - inferring from that -: ﴿Whoever was﴾; meaning: at a time among the times; ﴿seeking might﴾; meaning: that he is in need of others; while he is independent of others; often; not overpowered; ﴿then to Allah﴾; meaning: alone; ﴿belongs all might﴾; meaning: let him seek it from Him; and not seek it from others; for there is nothing for others in it; and whoever seeks something from someone other than its owner will be disappointed; Ibn al-Jawzi said: And it has been narrated from Anas - may Allah be pleased with him - from the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, that he said: "Indeed, your Lord says every day: (I am the Mighty; so whoever seeks the might of the two abodes, let him obey the Mighty)." (p-19) And when he encouraged the pursuit of might; after informing that there is nothing for others in it; it indicated his exclusivity in it; by the comprehensiveness of His knowledge and power; and he clarified that it is only attained through wisdom; he said: ﴿To Him﴾; meaning: not to others; ﴿the good word ascends﴾; meaning: that which is in accordance with the laws of Shari'ah; with a good intention; and a correct belief; whether it is secret or public; for it is the essence of wisdom; so it honors its possessor; and rewards him.
And when he elevated the rank of the wise saying; he indicated that action is higher than it; for it is the intended goal; and the saying is a means to it; he said - indicating its elevation by changing the context -: ﴿And righteous deeds raise it﴾; He - glorified and exalted is He - takes upon Himself to elevate it; and for its possessor with Him is a mighty honor; and an everlasting bliss; and his deed will succeed; Al-Razi said; in al-Lawa'ih: Knowledge is only completed by action; as it is said: "Knowledge calls for action; if it responds; otherwise it departs"; it has ended; and it has been said:
Do not be satisfied with a man's sweet words ∗∗∗ until his actions confirm what he says
So if you weigh his statement against his actions ∗∗∗ you will find balance, and the friendship of that is beauty.
And when He clarified what achieves honor from wisdom; He clarified what brings about humiliation; and necessitates wrath; from lowly ambition. So He said: ﴿And those who plot﴾; meaning: they act in the manner of concealing the plots ﴿the evils﴾; meaning: they conceal their intentions with it; to catch them by surprise. ﴿For them is a severe punishment﴾; as they intended for others that; and their plotting does not ascend to Him by itself; nor does He raise it; because it does not possess the qualification for that; due to its contradiction to wisdom. And when what He mentioned of their plotting necessitated knowing their state; did it benefit them in anything? He informed that He destroyed him by His honor; and annihilated him by His wisdom; so He said: ﴿And the plotting of those﴾; meaning: those far from success; ﴿is﴾; meaning: alone; without the plotting of one who intends good by his plotting; for indeed Allah executes it and elevates his matter; and grants him the outcome; fulfilling His saying (glorified and exalted is He): ﴿And they plot, and Allah plots, and Allah is the best of planners﴾ [Al-Anfal: 30]; as He brought you out, O allies, from your homes; for the sake of the caravan; so He brought the enemies out from their homes; and placed them in the pit of 'Badr'; ﴿It decays﴾; meaning: it becomes worthless; and corrupts; and perishes; this indicated the comprehensiveness of His knowledge of good; and evil; from saying; and action; both hidden; and apparent; and the completeness of His power; and that is the meaning of 'honor'; and the verse from the overlap: He omitted what belongs to the doer of good; and indicated it by mentioning what belongs to the doer of evil; and omitted the placement of the evil plot; and indicated it by raising the good deed.
