And when He condemned the disbelievers and was astonished by their denial of the Hour in His saying: ﴿And those who disbelieved say, 'The Hour will not come to us'﴾ [Saba: 3], He established the evidence for its coming. He clarified that there is no alternative in wisdom other than it, so that justice and virtue may be achieved in the recompense of the people of evil and the people of virtue. He then praised the believers, saying, describing them with knowledge, informing that what has led the disbelievers to denial is ignorance: ﴿And those who see﴾, expressing with sight and using the present tense, indicating that they are not in doubt about their actions; rather, they are like witnesses to all that the Messenger has informed them of, blessings and peace be upon him. And with the present tense, it refers to the renewal of their actions, advancing in their ranks continually, in contrast to the stubbornness of those who are steadfast in the falsehood that was indicated previously. He indicated that their knowledge is bestowed upon them by saying: ﴿They were given knowledge﴾, meaning Allah cast it into their hearts, so they became witnesses to its meanings. If the veil were lifted, they would not increase in certainty, whether they were among those who embraced Islam from the Arabs or from the People of the Book. ﴿What has been revealed to you﴾, meaning all of it regarding the Hour and other matters, ﴿from your Lord﴾, meaning the One who is gracious to you by revealing it. [And the pronoun of separation was brought for the purpose of magnifying the matter and specifying that what follows is the second object of 'they were given', so He said]: ﴿It is the truth﴾, meaning nothing other than it from the speech. ﴿And it guides﴾, meaning [it renews over time the guidance] of whoever follows it ﴿to a path﴾, meaning a clear and wide way.

And when this Surah was revealed in Mecca, and the disbelievers were in a state of dominance and the believers were few and fearful, and the Arabs were condemning them for opposing their people and the religion of their forefathers, and similar superstitions that resulted in the argument for the claimed truth being based on men, He said: ﴿The Almighty, the Praiseworthy﴾, meaning whoever follows His path - which is Islam - is honored, and his Lord praises him, and everything praises him, even if all of creation were to conspire against him. For indeed, He, glorified and exalted is He, must manifest for the purpose of distinguishing between the servants, with misery and happiness, according to the measure of their preparedness.
