Commentary
And how can they have that, while they have certainly disbelieved in it, meaning in that which they were asked to believe in, hoping for reward? This was before, meaning in the abode of action. And the state is that when they were in their disbelief, they cast accusations regarding the matter to which they were called, with words they hurled quickly, without hesitation or contemplation. Regarding the unseen, meaning from the projections of assumptions, which is the doubt that has been previously invalidated in this Surah and others regarding their rejection of resurrection and other matters that Allah has informed about.
And since a thing cannot hit what it casts while it is absent from it, especially with distance, He said, informing them of their distance from the knowledge of what they say, along with their great distance from the state of that which they spoke about, whether it was the Qur'an, the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, or resurrection, Paradise, and Hell: 'from a distant place.' And this is contrary to the casting of the Knower of the unseen, for He is from a near place, thus it is known and necessary for the truth.
