Commentary

And when they were between two matters: either they remain silent so that every listener knows that the proof is binding upon them, or they say with audacity and obstinacy: 'You are in misguidance and we are upon guidance.' And the misguided continues to sever what should be connected with a connection that must be cut. He commanded him to respond to them in this regard with what is more eloquent in fairness than the first by saying: ﴿Say, you will not be asked﴾ meaning by any questioner ﴿about what we have committed﴾ meaning what we have severed of what should be connected of what misguidance has necessitated for us ﴿and we will not be asked﴾ meaning at all at any time by any questioner ﴿about what you do﴾ meaning of what you have built upon the knowledge that guidance has inherited for you, meaning leave us and the people other than you as we are leaving you. So whoever has something clarified to him from the two paths, let him take it.
