Commentary
And when He forbade them from harm, He commanded them to do good so that they would become esteemed in His sight, glorified and exalted is He, repeating the call as a plea and showing concern. He said: "O you who have believed," meaning those who claim that. And when He had specifically commanded the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, at the beginning of the surah to have piety, He generalized at the end of it by commanding it, supplementing His prohibition with a command that includes a warning to strengthen the deterrent from harm and the call to abandon it. He said: "Fear Allah," meaning affirm your claims with fear of Him, to whom belongs all greatness. So make for yourselves a protection from His wrath by giving Him all that He has entrusted you with of the trust. And say regarding the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, in the matter of Zaynab, may Allah be pleased with her, and others, and regarding his daughters and wives, may Allah be pleased with them, and regarding the believers and their women, and others: "a good word," meaning directed towards the truth, correct and sound.
