And when the breaking of habits and changing of familiarities is something that burdens many souls, and separates those who gather, and cuts off those who are in contact, and distances those who are close, he reminded him ﷺ of what was taken from those who accepted him regarding the abrogation of their religions by his religion, and the changing of their familiarities by his familiarity. He also reminded him of the advice of his people to convey to them all that they were sent with. He directed the words to the manifestation of greatness, as it is more conducive to accepting commands: 'And when' it is known that the meaning is: - mention that - meaning what we have written for you before this in your book, and mention when 'We took' by Our greatness 'from the Prophets their covenant' in conveying the message in ease and hardship, and in the mutual support of some of them for others, and in your following what We informed you of in Our saying 'When I gave you from the Book and Wisdom, then a Messenger came to you confirming what is with you, you must surely believe in him and you must surely support him' [Al-Imran: 81] and their saying: We have acknowledged.

And when he reminded him of what was taken from all the Prophets regarding the covenant in changing their familiarities to what He, glorified and exalted is He, commands them with in conveying what is revealed to them and acting upon its implications, he reminded him of what was taken from him regarding the covenant in conveying. He said: 'And from you' meaning in Our saying in this Surah 'Fear Allah' [Al-Ahzab: 1] 'and follow what is revealed to you' [Al-Ahzab: 2] and in Al-Ma'idah 'O Messenger, convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not do it, then you have not conveyed His message, and Allah will protect you from the people' [Al-Ma'idah: 67]. So do not concern yourself with the consideration of an enemy or a lowly friend or a noble one. And when he completed the intended meaning generally and specifically, he ﷺ distinguished him from that generality, beginning with it as an explanation for his honor, and because he is the one specifically addressed by the command to fear and to follow the revelation for the sake of adoption and others. He followed it with the remaining of those of firm resolve who are the companions of the books and the famous leaders of the laws, affirming the command and magnifying the status. For whoever knows that he has a share in a matter strives to precede in it and arranged them according to their order in time, as he did not intend to favor one over another, but rather to follow the example of the earlier and later. He said: 'And from Noah' the first of the Messengers to the disbelievers 'and Ibrahim' the father of the Prophets 'and Musa' the first of the possessors of books among the Prophets of the Children of Israel 'and Isa son of Maryam' their last. He attributed him to his mother, calling out to those who have gone astray in it with reprimand and recording of disgrace. Then he increased in affirming the matter and magnifying it for the sake of the covenant in it, and indicating its difficulty. He said, affirming by repeating the worker and the manifestation of greatness for the difficulty of returning from the familiar: 'And We took from them' meaning by Our greatness in that 'a firm covenant' borrowed from the description of great bodies, as a metaphor that it cannot be severed for one who desires connection with Us.
