﴿Calling﴾ that is, for the two groups ﴿to Allah﴾ that is, to what pleases the One who is greater than Him in word and action. And the call is free from exaggeration because it encompasses glad tidings, warnings, and informing about stories and parables, and the establishment of rulings and limits. What is commanded in all of that is to convey according to the need, whether with exaggeration or without it. So whoever the warning does not turn away from his misguidance, and the glad tidings do not bring him to his guidance, he is carried upon that with the sword.

And since that is extremely difficult, no one can accomplish it except with great assistance from Allah, he indicated that by saying: ﴿By His permission﴾ that is, by enabling you to call by facilitating its means and bearing its burdens, and for the one being called to respond and follow if He wills good for him.

And since the caller to Allah must have light for the evidence to appear, he said: ﴿And a lamp﴾ that extends insight and clarifies the darkness of ignorance with the enlightening knowledge of the places of error, just as the physical light extends the light of sight. And since the position is guiding to its illumination, and among the lamps are those that do not give light, and there is great significance in stating and confirming, he said: ﴿Illuminating﴾ that is, it illuminates for whoever follows it to walk in the greatest light, and whoever falls behind it is in the greatest darkness.

So he recognized from the limitation by light that it is the place of resemblance, and he expressed it without the sun because it takes from it and does not diminish, even though it is among the names of the sun.
