Commentary
And when he mentioned that until he concluded with the purification, he followed it with a reminder of what Allah, glorified and exalted is He, has bestowed, of which the effect of purification is the qualification for witnessing what is repeated from the coming of the angels with the revelation, which is the cause of every apparent and hidden purity. He said, specifying from the context for their sake, may Allah be pleased with them, alerting them that their homes are the abodes of revelation and the mines of secrets: "And remember..." meaning within yourselves a constant remembrance, and remember Him to others in the manner of admonition and teaching.
And when the focus was on the recited, he clarified it by attributing the action to it to indicate that it is the mainstay of the sentence. He said, establishing for the object: "What is recited..." meaning it follows and continues to be mentioned and to embody it. He indicated to them what He has specifically honored them with from it, saying: "In your homes..." meaning through the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, who has chosen you from the signs of Allah, which there is nothing greater than.
And when what is meant by that is the Qur'an, he added to it what is more general than it, saying, clarifying the intensity of concern for it by including it in the category of the recited, relying on the fact that the one who acts upon it is well-known, for recitation is not said except in relation to the Book: "And the wisdom..." meaning it spreads and disseminates knowledge adorned with action and action perfected by knowledge, and do not forget anything from that.
And when the context was to turn away from the world, and the wisdom was repulsive towards it, he indicated at the end of the verse that although it is a means of attaining the success of the Hereafter, it also brings about the good of this world. He said, affirming as a deterrent to those who doubt that elevation is reached through its opposite and similar matters that the report contains of great lessons: "Indeed, Allah," meaning the One who has all greatness, "was," meaning He has always been, "Subtle," meaning He brings to the objectives through the means of opposites, "All-Aware," meaning His knowledge is profound beyond the grasp of thoughts. He makes turning away from the world a means of bringing it about in the most beautiful ways and the most complete of creations, even if the noses of all creatures are turned up. He knows who is suitable for the household of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and who is not, and what benefits people in this world and religion and what does not benefit them. The paths that lead to all that He has decreed and ordained, even if they are contrary to what people are accustomed to, "Whoever turns to Allah, He suffices him from every burden and provides for him from where he does not expect." This was narrated by Al-Tabarani in Al-Saghir, Ibn Abi Dunya, and Al-Bayhaqi in Al-Shu'ab from Imran ibn Husayn, may Allah be pleased with him. "Whoever relies on Allah, He suffices him, and whoever turns to the world, Allah leaves him to it," narrated by the author of Al-Firdaws and Abu Shaykh Ibn Hayyan in the Book of Rewards from Imran, may Allah be pleased with him as well. And indeed, Allah, glorified and exalted is He, fulfilled His promise in His kindness and realized His grace in His report by opening Khaybar to His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, after that. He poured forth from it whatever He willed of His vast provision. Then, when His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, passed away to protect him from the allure of worldly life, He opened great conquests from the lands of Persia, Rome, Egypt, and what remained of Yemen. The conquest spread to all regions: the east, west, south, and north. He enabled the companions of His Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, to the treasures of all those lands and the riches of those kings until the companions, may Allah be pleased with them, were measuring out wealth in measures. The matter increased until "Umar recorded the registers and allocated for the people in general their provisions, even for the infants. Initially, he did not allocate for the newborn until they were weaned. They would hasten the weaning, so he called out to his caller: Do not hasten your children to weaning, for we will allocate for every newborn in Islam. He differentiated among the people in the distribution according to their closeness to the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, and their distance from him, and according to their precedence in Islam and migration. He placed the people in their ranks in a way that pleased all the people until Khalid ibn Urfutah came to him and asked him about what was beyond him. He said: I left them asking Allah for you to increase your life from their lives. Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: It is their right, and I am the happiest in fulfilling it to them. If it were from the wealth of Al-Khattab, you would have given it to them, but I know that there is a surplus in it. So if the distribution of one of them came out, he would buy a sheep and place it in your pasture. If his distribution came out again, he would buy another head or two and place them in it. If any of his children remained, they would have something they had acquired. For I do not know what will happen after me, and I certainly advise everyone whom Allah has entrusted to me. For the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, said: "Whoever dies deceiving his subjects will not smell the fragrance of Paradise." Thus, his obligation for the wives of the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, was twelve thousand for each one, which is about a thousand dinars each year. He gave Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, twenty-five thousand for the love of the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, for her. She refused to take except what her companions took. And it was narrated from Barzah bint Rafi' that she said: When the distribution came out, Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, sent to Zaynab bint Jahsh, may Allah be pleased with her, what was due to her. When it was brought to her, she said: May Allah forgive Umar! Others among my sisters are stronger in distributing this than I. They said: This is all for you, O Mother of the Believers. She said: Glory be to Allah! And she covered herself with a garment. Then she said: Pour it out and place a garment over it. Then she said to me: Put your hands in and take a handful and go with it to the children of so-and-so and so-and-so from her relatives and orphans. So she distributed it until there remained a portion under the garment. Barzah bint Rafi' said: I said: May Allah forgive you, O Mother of the Believers, by Allah, we had a right in this wealth. She said: Then you have what is under the garment. We found under it five hundred and eighty dirhams. Then she raised her hands to the sky and said: O Allah, do not let me receive a distribution for Umar after this year. Then she died. Al-Baladhuri mentioned this in the Book of the Conquests of the Lands.
