Commentary
And when it became established with these events - in which He, glorified and exalted is He, aided solely through hidden causes that He caused, and secret matters that He arranged, which the chosen, numerous armies and the tyrannical, arrogant kings are incapable of - what He presented is enough for whoever relies upon Him, and turns entirely to Him. And it was concluded with the attribute of the everlasting, general power, that He is capable of all that He wills. And if He wished, He would have caused treasures of the earth to flow with His ally. And it is not permissible for anyone to regard another or to gaze at the face of anyone else. And it is known that whoever turns to this religion, he only benefits himself, and the virtue is for the possessor of the religion upon him. And whoever turns away from it, the burden of his turning away is upon himself, and there is no harm to the religion from the turning away of this turner, just as there is no benefit to him from the turning of that one who turns to it. And it has been decreed by Him, glorified and exalted is He, that whoever cuts off to Him, He protects him from the world as an honor for him and raises his status from the lowly to the precious of what is with Him. Because all matters of it are destined for disappearance, vanishing, and dissolution, and no one attaches his ambition to that except a short-sighted, misguided one. So He, glorified and exalted is He, began to command His most beloved of creation to Him, and the one most honored in status with Him, known for complying with the command of reliance and turning away from all else besides Him, glorified and exalted is He, and that he does not choose from the world anything other than sufficiency, contentment, and chastity, with a choice that brings people closer to him as a discipline for all people. So He said, in the manner of deriving from what has preceded: "O Prophet," mentioning the attribute of his elevation and his connection to Him, glorified and exalted is He, and informing him of the secrets of hearts and the hidden matters, necessitating that his thoughts be free for what he receives from the knowledge, and he does not attach anything of that to anything harmful: "Say to your wives," meaning your women: "If you desire," meaning a firm desire, "the life" (p-337) and He described it with that which dissuades the people of high aspirations and reminds those who have intellect of the Hereafter. He said: "The world," meaning what is in it of abundance, luxury, and blessings, "and its adornment," meaning that which contradicts what my Lord has commanded me regarding turning away from it and regarding its contempt, because it is the most despised of His creation to Him, as it is a severance from Him. "So come forward," its origin is that the command is higher than the commanded, so it calls him to elevate himself to it, then it became so abundant that its meaning became: come closer, and here it is a metaphor for informing and wanting in relation to the fact that the informed draws near to the one who informs him. "I will provide you," meaning with what I have favored you with, "and I will release you," meaning from the bonds of my protection, "a beautiful release," meaning in which there is no harm, nor any kind of malice or oppression.
