Commentary
And when the result of their hearing these proofs was their mockery, even with their questioning him about the Day of Victory, he, glorified and exalted is He, responded to them without specifying it by mentioning his condition. And he, blessings and peace be upon him, due to his intense eagerness for their benefit, perhaps loved to inform them of what they requested, even though he knew that this was mockery from them, hoping that it might benefit them in some way. Therefore, glorified and exalted is He caused him to turn away from answering them, and He commanded this kind and compassionate caller to also turn away from them. So he said, comforting him and threatening them: 'So turn away from them' [meaning] do not care about them, even if their harm intensifies, 'and wait' [meaning] what we will do with them in which there is the manifestation of your matter and the exaltation of your religion. And when the situation necessitated the listener's hesitation regarding their state, whether it is waiting, he was answered in a way of affirmation by His saying: 'Indeed, they are waiting' [meaning] what will be done to you and what will be the outcome of your matter regarding what you threaten them with and otherwise. And the end of it corresponds to the beginning of it with the warning of this book, and He informed of its majesty, its clarity, its severity, and its courage that there is no kind of doubt in it. And also, its beginning is in the denial of its revelation, and its end is in the mockery of its interpretation, 'The Day when its interpretation comes, those who had forgotten it before will say' [Al-A'raf: 53] - the verse. And also, the beginning is in the denial of the descent of the spiritual soul, and the end is in the denial of the return of the physical, sensory soul that was initiated the first time, and Allah is the guide to the truth.
