And when this which he presented at the beginning of the surah is a clear proof and decisive evidence that this book is from Allah, it was as if it was said: Did they believe in it? ﴿Or do they say﴾ with that which no rational person doubts ﴿that he fabricated it﴾ meaning he deliberately lied about it.
And when the answer was: Indeed, they say: He fabricated it, and his response was: It is not fabricated due to what is concurrent with it from the miraculousness, his saying followed: ﴿Rather, it is the truth﴾ meaning the established truth that is established with a firmness that cannot be matched by the firmness of anything from the previous books, being ﴿from your Lord﴾ the One who has done good to you by revealing it and perfecting it, and He specifically addressed you indicating that no one understands its reality as it should be understood except for you.
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned His favor upon him ﷺ explicitly, He indicated by this reasoning to His favor [upon him] also to all the Arabs. He said, specifying the warning because the situation necessitates it by the conclusion of Luqman: ﴿To warn a people﴾ meaning those of strength, endurance, and capability to fulfill what He commanded them ﴿that no warner has come to them﴾ meaning a messenger in these recent times according to the saying of Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that what is meant is the period of silence, and this is supported by the affirmation of the neighbor in His saying: ﴿before you﴾ [meaning in action] they witnessed it or their forefathers witnessed it. Or in meaning and strength, there was among them the religion of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, until it was changed by Amr ibn Luhay, and all of them knew that and that Ibrahim, peace be upon him, did not worship an idol nor did he seek divination by arrows, and this is as He, the Most High, said: ﴿And there is no nation but that there has passed within it a warner﴾ [Fatir: 24] meaning of his legislation and religion, and the warner is not specific to one who directly engaged - Abu Hayyan pointed this out. It can be said: What came to them was one who warns them specifically about what they changed from the religion of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and as for Ismail, his son, peace be upon him, he was a bearer of good tidings, not a warner, because they did not oppose him. And better than all of this is what Al-Baghawi transmitted from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, and Muqatil that this was in the period that was between Isa and Muhammad ﷺ, for indeed he transmitted that Isa, peace be upon him, when he sent his messengers to the horizons, sent a messenger to the Arabs.
And when he mentioned the reason for the revelation, he followed it with the reason for the warning, saying: "So that perhaps they may be guided." This means that their state in the course of habits should be like that of one whose guidance to the perfection of the Shari'ah is hoped for. As for Tawhid, there is no excuse for anyone in it due to the proof of reason that Allah has established, along with what the messengers, blessings and peace be upon them, have left behind. Adam and those after him have clear narrations from the effects of their calls and the remnants of their indications. For this reason, the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, said to the one who asked him about his father: "My father and your father are in the Fire." And he said: "Do not boast about your fathers who passed away in ignorance, for by the One in Whose Hand is my soul, a dung beetle is better than them." In addition to this, there are other reports confirming that everyone who died before his call upon shirk is destined for the Fire.
