And when He negated their equality, He followed it with the state of each one in detail, expressing it in the plural because the ruling of His satisfaction and displeasure, understood through wisdom, applies to each one of them more so. He said: "As for those who believed and did righteous deeds," meaning: in affirmation of their faith, "for them are the gardens of refuge," meaning the gardens that are exclusive and not like this world, which is a place of passage, nor like the Fire, which is a place of escape without a dwelling. They are qualified for the complete refuge in this description, as indicated by the definite article. They are firmly established in it, not seeking to depart from it, just as they settled in faith, which is worthy of permanence, so they did not seek a substitute for it. "A provision," meaning a preparation for them upon their first arrival, according to the saying of Al-Hasan and 'Atā, and this is more fitting for the situation, just as it is prepared for the guest according to what is apparent. "By what they used to do," meaning their innate nature and disposition, "they always act in a way of renewal," for indeed their deeds are from the mercy of their Lord. So if these gardens are a provision, what do you think about what comes after that! And by my life, this is what he indicated in his saying, blessings and peace be upon him: "What no eye has seen, nor ear has heard, nor has it crossed the heart of a human." And they are in increase every moment, for the power of Allah has no end. So beware that a deceiver does not deceive you or an atheist does not mislead you.
