Commentary

And when His saying, glorified and exalted is He: ﴿Rather, they are disbelievers in the meeting with their Lord﴾ [Surah As-Sajdah: 10] indicated that pride is what drives them to disbelief. He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned that He divided the people into two categories (p-254) for the sake of the two abodes. The soul longs to mention the signs of the people of faith just as the signs of the people of disbelief have been mentioned. He said, defining that there is no way for the criminals to have faith: ﴿And if they were returned, they would return to that which they were forbidden﴾ [Surah Al-An'am: 28] ﴿Only those who believe in Our signs﴾ that indicate Our greatness ﴿are those who, when reminded of them﴾ by any reminder, at any time, before the veil is lifted and after it, ﴿fall down in prostration﴾ meaning they hasten to prostration like one who has fallen unintentionally, humbled before Allah due to their extreme humility, fear, and submission to Him, a steadfast and constant submission. ﴿And they glorify﴾ meaning they engage in declaring His perfection from any blemish of deficiency, abandoning frivolity that leads to the loss of wisdom and other than it, while they are adorned ﴿with praise﴾ and the speech is directed to the attribute necessitating their glorification and praise, as a reminder for them. He said: ﴿Their Lord﴾ meaning by affirming for Him the encompassing of the attributes of perfection. And when this includes their humility, He stated it explicitly in His saying: ﴿And they are not arrogant﴾ meaning they do not seek pride in anything that the guide has called them to, nor do they establish it as a trait firmly rooted in their innermost selves.
