And when he mentioned their distancing, and followed it with their stubbornness, their denial was only due to the mixing of the parts with the dust after it had turned into dust. It was impossible for them to distinguish it from the rest of the dust. This indicated that it was easy for Him, as He reminded them of what they themselves acknowledge, which is similar to that but even more subtle. He said, beginning: "Say" as a response to them regarding their doubt: "He takes your souls" meaning He seizes your souls completely from your bodies after they had been mixed with all parts of the body, with no distinction of one from the other in a way that you recognize by some means. "The Angel of Death" Then He indicated that His action is by His power, and that it is extremely easy for Him, by constructing the action without naming its doer, so He said: "Who has been appointed over you" meaning appointed by the Creator for that, and he is a servant among His servants, so he did what he was commanded. Then the body is thrown down with no soul in any part of it, and it is in its complete state, with no deficiency in any part of it that would claim a flaw because of it. If this is the action of a servant among His servants who was assigned to that, and he carried it out as you see it, while the mingling of the soul with the body is more intense than the mingling of the dust of the body with the rest of the dust, because perhaps some of the skilled ones might deduce some of that by a type of evidence from scent and the like, then how can anything be distanced from the Lord of the worlds, and the Planner of all creatures?

So when this clear and decisive proof arose, along with its precision for everyone regarding His complete power to distinguish their dust from the dust of the earth, and to distinguish some of their dust from others, and to distinguish the dust of each of their parts, whether large or small, he knew that the estimation is: Then He will recreate you as a new creation just as you were the first time. So he omitted it as is the habit of the Qur'an in omitting everything that the context indicates and there is no need to mention it. Then he added his saying: "Then to your Lord" meaning the One who began your creation and your nurturing and was exceedingly gracious to you from the beginning, not to anyone else, after your resurrection "You will be returned" by resurrecting you as one soul, and then you are before Him, so His grace and lordship will be completed by rewarding each one according to what he did, as is the custom of kings with their servants, leaving no oppressor among them neglected.
