وَإِذَا تُتۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسۡتَكۡبِرٗا كَأَن لَّمۡ يَسۡمَعۡهَا كَأَنَّ فِيٓ أُذُنَيۡهِ وَقۡرٗاۖ فَبَشِّرۡهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ ٧ ﴿7
7And when Our verses are recited to him, he turns away in arrogance, as if he did not hear them, as if there is heaviness in his ears. So give him the ‘good’ news of a painful punishment.

And when man may be heedless, if he is alerted, he becomes aware. This indicates, glorified and exalted is He, that this man engrossed in the causes of loss does not increase over the passage of time except in surprise at everything that comes to him from the statement of oppression and tyranny.
