And when the Muslim sees the destruction of one whose condition is like this, and the knowledge of the duration of that, and since it is human nature to be hasty, he responds to the one who is hastening with his words returning to the manifestation of the greatness that is required by the humiliation of the enemy and the honor of the ally: ﴿We will enjoy them for a little while﴾ [meaning] of time and of fortunes, even if that is great in the sight of one who has no knowledge of it. So do not occupy yourselves with hastening against them, for certainly every coming is near.

And when the compulsion of the tyrants to punishment is an unlikely matter, he indicated with the tool of distance to what occurs with him from the attributes of majesty, which humiliates men and crushes mountains. And in it, there is also an indication of the prolongation of the enjoyment of the doers of good from their enjoyment, even if it is little in reality, or with Allah. He said: ﴿Then we will compel them﴾ meaning we will take them in a way from which they cannot escape by any means. He indicated the length of their humiliation during the duration of the driving with the letter of purpose. So the meaning was: we will turn them by that taking ﴿to a severe punishment﴾ meaning heavy and intense, which does not cease from them at all, nor will they find for themselves a way out from any of its aspects. It is as if in its severity and heaviness, it is a very heavy burden when it descends upon something from which they cannot escape.
