Commentary
And when it was one of the most astonishing wonders that those who claim reason insist on denying the truth, and do not listen to evidence, nor are guided to a path, he said, resuming in response to one who asked him: Is there such a nature? And encouraging in knowledge: ﴿Thus﴾ meaning like this very great nature. And when the existence of a single thing is guidance for some people and misguidance for others, combined with greatness, the completeness of knowledge and wisdom, he diverted the address from it to the greatest name that encompasses all, saying: ﴿Allah seals﴾ meaning the One who has no equal, so whatever He wills, it happens, as a continuous habit. And he alerted to the multitude of those who are sealed upon by gathering the multitude, saying: ﴿upon the hearts of those who do not know﴾ meaning they do not renew - due to lack of receptivity - knowledge by not seeking knowledge of what they are ignorant of, from what this book has established of the sciences of this world and the Hereafter, being pleased with what they have of ignorance which they have called guidance, and misguidance which they have thought to be guidance and completeness.
