Commentary

And when the decree was: This is from the signs of Allah [which] you witness at all times as a proof of your resurrection, He turned to remind them of what is more difficult than that in the course of customs, saying: ﴿And among His signs﴾ meaning of His ability to resurrect you. And when the intention was to affirm His ability, glorified and exalted is He, to resurrect them after they had become dust [by creating their origin from dust], it increases the admiration of resurrection in that He had no origin in life. And His action for that was only once, He said expressing in the past: ﴿That He created you﴾ by the creation of your father Adam ﴿from dust﴾ which had no original quality of life.

And when the beginning of man from dust is extremely astonishing, He indicated that with a tool of distance, saying: ﴿Then﴾ meaning after bringing you out of it ﴿you are human beings﴾ meaning you surprised your existence with a quality that is extremely cohesive and connected with softness, contrary to what you had in description when you were dust. And He attributed the spreading to the addressed subject [not] to the predicate because the address is more indicative of the intended meaning, saying: ﴿You spread﴾ meaning you reach by spreading every extent by moving from place to place with reason and speech. And He did not conclude this verse with what He concluded with what follows as an indication that it encompasses all the verses and is indicative of all perfections. And He concluded what follows with that as a reminder that people have neglected to contemplate it despite its clarity. And it was their right to make it the focus of their attention, indicative of all that the books have revealed and the messengers have informed, and likewise, He emphasized in the report informing that they have become for neglecting it in the realm of denial.
