Commentary

And when he mentioned a proof of resurrection that necessitates absolute oneness, which is revival in meaning after death, he followed it with the reality of revival and death. He ascended from the mention of resurrection, explicitly stating what he had alluded to, saying: ﴿He brings the living﴾ like a human and a bird ﴿from the dead﴾ like a sperm and an egg ﴿and He brings the dead﴾ like an egg and a sperm ﴿from the living﴾ in the opposite manner ﴿and He revives the earth﴾ with the greening of plants.

And when there are lands that do not grow except after a period of rain, and some that grow from the time of rain after the destruction of what was in them of plants, he omitted the neighbor here to indicate the second matter because it is more indicative of power. It is more suitable for this context and for the purpose of the surah, and because it shows the strength of its revival continuously, he said: ﴿after its death﴾ by its dryness and crumbling. And when the estimation is: thus He does, as a means of repetition while you are watching, he added to it his saying: (p-64) ﴿And likewise﴾ meaning and like His doing this marvelous act of bringing forth this living being, physically and meaningfully, from the dead ﴿You will be brought forth﴾ with the easiest matter from the earth after your bodies have dispersed in it from the dust that was alive with your life - this is according to the reading of the congregation, the passive form. Hamzah, al-Kisai, and Ibn Dhakwan built it differently for the active form, indicating that they, due to their readiness to accept resurrection, became as if they were coming forth with themselves. - Abdullah ibn Imam Ahmad narrated in the additions of al-Musnad "from Laqit ibn Amir, may Allah be pleased with him, that he went as a delegate to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, and with him was a companion named Nahik ibn Asim ibn Malik ibn al-Muntafiq, may Allah be pleased with him. He said: So I went out with my companion until we arrived at the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, at the end of Rajab. We came to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, when he had finished the Fajr prayer, and he stood in the morning as a speaker until he said: "[Listen] you will live, [sit down] you will sit down." He said: So the people sat down, and I stood up with my companion [until] when his heart and sight were free for us, I said: O Messenger of Allah! What do you have of knowledge of the unseen? He laughed, by the life of Allah, and shook his head, saying: Your Lord has withheld the keys of the five from the unseen, and he mentioned them until he mentioned resurrection. I said: O Messenger of Allah, how will He gather us after the winds (p-65) and decay and beasts have scattered us? He said: I will inform you of something similar in the blessings of Allah. The earth, you looked upon it while it was barren and decayed, and you said: It will never come to life. Then your Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, sent down the sky upon it, and it did not take long for you except a few days until it shone upon you while it was a single green shoot. By the life of your God, He is certainly more capable of gathering you from water just as He gathers the plants of the earth, and you will come forth."
