And when the mention of cultivating the earth and improving it for plants was previously made, and it was admonished that making it one's greatest concern does not last for him and does not benefit him at all, it was mentioned that he rewards whoever turns away from it in his heart for following His command, glorified and exalted is He, with the greatest of what he sees of its flowers, its freshness, and its beauty as a continuous reward. So He said: "So they are in a garden," meaning specifically, "not less than it," and it is a very vast and expansive land with abundant water and delightful plants - this is its essence in the language. And Al-Tabari said: You will not find a more beautiful sight or a more pleasant spread than the gardens.

They are made joyful, meaning they are made happy in a renewed way, at all times, with a joy that makes faces shine, mouths smile, and eyes sparkle, so their beauty and joy appear. The blessing becomes evident by the manifestation of its effects on the easiest and most apparent faces.

Al-Razi said in Al-Lawami: Its origin, meaning joy, in the language is an effect of beauty. And others said: He made him happy, meaning if he made him happy, his face would brighten, and its effect would appear in him.
