Commentary
'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful'
Surah Ar-Rum
Its purpose is to affirm that all matters belong to Allah. So, the oneness and power over everything come forth. Then, the resurrection and the victory of His allies, and the defeat of His enemies come forth. This is the intended purpose itself. The name of the surah is clear in its indication of what was the reason for the victory of the Romans, from the true promise and the hidden secret. 'In the name of Allah,' who possesses all matters, 'the Most Gracious,' who has mercy on all creation by establishing the evidence, 'the Most Merciful,' who has been kind to His allies and saved them from every harm, and bestowed upon them every beneficial joy.
When He, glorified and exalted is He, concluded the previous surah by stating that He is with the doers of good, He said: ﴿Alif Lam Meem﴾, indicating with the Alif of standing and exaltation, the Lam of connection, and the Meem of completion, that the Most High King, the Sustainer, sent Gabriel, blessings and peace be upon him - who is a connection between Him and His Prophets, blessings and peace be upon them - to the noblest of His creation, Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him, who was sent to complete the noble character. He reveals to him a revelation informing him of the witnessed and the unseen. Then, the matter comes as He informed, as evidence of the truth of his message, and the perfection of the knowledge of His Sender, and the comprehensiveness of His power, and the necessity of His oneness.
