Commentary
Then he explained guidance by his saying: ﴿In it are clear signs﴾; and his saying: ﴿The station of Ibrahim﴾; meaning: the trace of his foot - blessings and peace be upon him - in the stone; where he stood for his daughter-in-law to wash his noble head; Abu Hayyan explained it as an alternative; or as a clarification of the relative which is the news of 'Indeed'; in his saying: ﴿For the one in Bakkah﴾ [Al-Imran: 96]; so it is as if it was said: 'Indeed, the first house established for mankind is the station of Ibrahim.' And others explained it as an alternative to part of his saying: 'Signs'; and it is alone signs; due to its greatness; and due to the multiplicity of what is in it from the effect of the foot; and its preservation until this time; while being transmitted; and its reminder of all the matters of Ibrahim; and Ismail - blessings be upon them.
And when the safety of its people was in a land of plunder and raids where there is no ruler to whom they can turn; nor a leader to depend on in that; it is among the clearest signs; Allah - glorified and exalted is He - said: ﴿And whoever enters it﴾; meaning: in addition to its people; ﴿is safe﴾; meaning: firmly established in safety; or: 'So grant him safety with the safety of Allah'; and the transformation of the phrase from 'And the one who enters it is safe' is because this is more indicative of the intended meaning of the establishment of safety; and in it is a glad tidings of entering Paradise.
And when He clarified - glorified and exalted is He - their innocence from Ibrahim - blessings and peace be upon him - for their opposition to him after their false claim that he was upon their religion; and the opposition in the obligatory matters is more indicative; Allah - glorified and exalted is He - said: ﴿And to Allah﴾; meaning: the King who has all authority; ﴿belongs the people﴾; meaning: in general; so He made clear in the place of the implicit; an indication of the comprehensiveness and totality - as will be explained, if Allah - exalted is He - wills; from the teacher Abu Al-Hasan Al-Harali in ﴿And He sought to feed its people﴾ [Al-Kahf: 77]; in 'the Cave'; and this is so that it is not claimed that there is a specificity for the Arabs; or others; ﴿The pilgrimage to the house﴾; meaning: visiting it is a great visit; and He also made clear an explicit mention of it; and a reference to its mention; in glorification of its status; and He expressed here with 'the house'; because it is in the visit; and the custom of the Arabs is to visit the places of their beloved ones; and their ruins; and their locations; and their lawful places; and the greatest expression of visiting among them is the pilgrimage; then 'who'; with the abbreviation; by his saying - as an alternative to 'the people'; emphasizing clarification after ambiguity; and carrying it on gratitude with the abbreviation after the emphasis; and other forms of eloquence: ﴿Whoever is able﴾; meaning: from them; ﴿to it a way﴾; so whoever performs its pilgrimage is a believer.
And when it became clear that the meaning is: "And whoever does not perform Hajj; with the ability; has disbelieved in the blessing; if he acknowledges its obligation; and with the removal from the religion if he denies it"; it was followed by his saying: ﴿And whoever disbelieves﴾; meaning: in the blessing; or in the religion; ﴿then indeed Allah﴾; meaning: the Most High King; ﴿is Self-Sufficient﴾; and since His self-sufficiency is absolute; He indicated this by His saying - the place of "from Him" -: ﴿from the worlds﴾; meaning: their obedient ones; and their disobedient ones; their silent ones; and their speaking ones; their moist ones; and their dry ones; thus it became clear by this verse and similar ones that they are not upon His religion; as it became clear by what has preceded that He is not upon their religion; thus his innocence from them was established; (p-10) and the verse is of the type of ambiguity; because the establishment of His obligation first indicates the disbelief of whoever denies it; and the establishment of "And whoever disbelieves" secondly indicates the faith of whoever performs Hajj.
