Commentary
And when He, glorified and exalted is He, informed about the loss of those who turned away from Islam, He began to indicate the justification for that by His saying: "How will Allah guide a people" despite His complete greatness. "A people" means He creates guidance in the hearts of people who have the strength to attempt what they desire. "They disbelieved" means they committed disbelief in Allah, their Lord, and in what was mentioned of what His messengers brought, turning away from Him and from them. And since the aim of the complete blame is for whoever's disbelief continues until death, He said without any constraint: "After their faith" in all of that. "And they bore witness" means after they bore witness "that the Messenger is true" with what they had of knowledge about him. "And clear proofs came to them" means decisive evidence that he is true and that he is the Messenger of Allah, certainly. There is nothing stronger than his clarification, nor more intense than his manifestation, as indicated by the removal of the feminine 'ta' from 'came.'
And since the one who turns away from the evidence after the clarification is generally not expected to return, the questioning by 'how' clarifies that the estimation for the purpose of stating the intended meaning is: those do not guide them Allah due to their wrongdoing by placing the fruit of ignorance in breaking the covenant of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, which is confirmed through His messengers, the place of the fruit of knowledge. Thus, He added to this known estimation His saying: "And Allah" means the One who has all perfection "does not guide the wrongdoing people" meaning those who are immersed in wrongdoing due to their being molded upon that, warning against absolute wrongdoing.
