Commentary
And when he negated that the Wise One could be from among humans calling to himself, and affirmed that he must be a caller to Allah, glorified and exalted is He, so that His wisdom may manifest, he established that this must be with the intention of sincerity. This is because some of the devils perfect their deception by distancing the accusation from themselves by calling to others in a manner of polytheism, especially if that other is divine, like 'Isa, blessings and peace be upon him. He said: "And he does not command you"; that is, that human "to take". He used the form of causation to indicate that the natures are inclined to turn to Allah, glorified and exalted is He, without any burden. "The angels and the prophets" are preferred over others. "As lords" means with Allah, glorified and exalted is He, or besides Him. Then he clarified that every act of worship that has the slightest impurity in it is invalid, by his saying in a manner of denial to absolve the worship of the pure from such: "Does he command you with disbelief?" indicating that Allah, glorified and exalted is He, is Self-Sufficient and does not accept except what is purely for His sake. "After you have submitted" means being obedient to His rulings, or being prepared for monotheism in the original nature.
