Commentary
And when this is so clear that it does not need confirmation, he shifted from it to the confirmation of the response to them in the first matter by the fruit of this sentence and its result, that He is an agent by choice, fully capable. He said: ﴿He selects for His mercy whom He wills﴾. Then he emphasized the greatness of what He possesses to dispel the misconception of those who think that the selection of some is due to the narrowness of mercy from the generality. He said: ﴿And Allah﴾, of whom everything is less, does not diminish what is with Him, ﴿the Possessor of great bounty﴾. He repeated the greatest name here to magnify what he mentioned of the blessings, indicating by all of this the ability to give by His testing and the abundance of His bounty, and to the ability to save from the traps of deceit by the vastness of His knowledge.
