Then he followed that with another beginning similar to that, except that the first is limited to their misguidance, and this one extends to misleading them. He said: "O People of the Book, why do you mix the truth," meaning that which there is no doubt in it, "with falsehood," meaning by interpreting it in a way other than its interpretation, or by applying it to a place other than its proper place, "and you conceal the truth," meaning that which does not accept interpretation, which is what you know of the glad tidings of Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him, and its followers. "And you," meaning while you "know," meaning from those who possess knowledge, you certainly know that, and that the punishment of the misguided misleader is indeed very great.
