Commentary

And when all of this was established, it caused a threat to them regarding their turning away by his saying - warning with the expression of doubt that no one turns away from this clear matter except one who knows that it is false. Such a thing is not presumed of one with intellect or honor. Therefore, it is right to mention it as being among the obligations of impossibilities: ﴿So if they turn away﴾ meaning from your response to what you call them to, ﴿then indeed Allah﴾ meaning the One who encompasses everything in power and knowledge ﴿is Knowing﴾ of them. Thus was the original, but he deviated from it to link the judgment with the description, repelling from their like. So he said: ﴿of the corruptors﴾ meaning He judges them with His knowledge and takes revenge on them for their corruption with His might, a revenge that He perfects with His wisdom, and they will turn away from Him in a losing bargain and will not find any supporter.
