And he did not say: 'As for those who followed you' - so that the situation would not become confused, even though whoever followed the unlettered Prophet has indeed followed him in his glad tidings about him and the command to follow him. Rather, he said: 'And as for those who have believed and done righteous deeds' because this is the translation of those who truly followed him.
And when the complete care for the allies is inclusive of the ultimate humiliation of the enemies, He expressed (p-423) in a manifestation of greatness His saying, to glorify them and to belittle their enemies: 'So He will give them their rewards' meaning He will grant them without diminishing anything from it or wronging anyone from the two groups in anything. Indeed, Allah, glorified and exalted is He, is above that. 'And Allah' who has all perfection 'does not love the wrongdoers' whoever they may be, meaning He does not act with them in the manner of one who loves, for He nullifies their deeds because they are built on a foundation other than faith. Thus, the verse is from the intertwining, and its arrangement based on the original is: 'So We will give them because We love them, and Allah loves the believers, and those who have wronged, We will nullify their deeds because We do not love them, and Allah does not love the wrongdoers.' So, the granting of the reward first negates it second, and the affirmation of the dislike second confirms the opposite first. The reality of the situation is that He affirmed for the believers the necessary love intended in the right of Allah, glorified and exalted is He, because it is more concealed, (p-424) and the necessary intended from its absence in the wrongdoers because it is more severe.
