Commentary
It was said that the intention is to hasten the good news and to realize the joy: "My Lord, make for me a sign," meaning a sign by which I may know that. He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people," meaning you will not be able to speak to them with worldly speech for three days.
And since speech is metaphorically applied to action, he excluded his saying: "Except for a sign," so that this period may be dedicated to remembrance in gratitude for the blessing. Therefore, praise your Lord for that. Al-Harali said: The sign is a gentleness in understanding by the gesture of moving a part, like the hand, the glance, the lips, and similar things. The wink is stronger than it with the hand and similar things.
The absence of speech, despite the correctness of the means, is evidence of the existence of the speaker with the weakness of his means to the extent that it does not usually form. And since the most complete ability is to be prevented from one type of speech rather than another, he said: "And remember your Lord," meaning with praise, which is to affirm for Him the encompassing of all perfection.
"Much" in the days in which you were prevented from speaking to the people specifically, and in all your times generally. "And glorify" means to establish the glorification of your Lord, the All-Compassionate, by negating all deficiency from Him. "In the evening," and Al-Harali said: It is from the meaning of 'to be dim,' and its original meaning is to light a fire on a sign for the purpose of guidance or hospitality and a dwelling in a state of weakness. Therefore, the evening of the day was named so because it is the time of doing that, and its meaning is confirmed in the night. And from it, food is called 'dinner.'
"And in the morning," its origin is to hasten to the beginning of something, and from it is 'to be early,' which is speed, and 'the first fruits,' which is the first that appears from the fruit. So, 'the morning' is the picking of the flower of the day, which is its beginning.
