And when this promise was delayed; and their gaze was upon what the disbelievers had of immediate abundance; it perhaps affected some souls in a way that undermines faith in the unseen; which is a condition for the acceptance of faith; He treated it - glorified and exalted is He - by reciting the glad tidings to the warriors of warning the disbelievers and hypocrites; and those who were straightforward; who He allowed to forsake the believers; by turning back from fighting 'Uhud'; and other reasons for allowance; in a manner that confirms what was mentioned at the beginning of the surah; of the promise that they will be defeated; and that their wealth is merely an image; having no realities; connecting the end of it to its beginning; and affirming the response to the supplication of His allies at the end of the previous one; by His saying - addressing His most honorable servants; and the intended ones are those who (p-164) this is usually possible for them; because the address of the leader is more effective in addressing the followers - 'Let not the fluctuation of those who disbelieve deceive you'; meaning: do not be deceived by the actions of 'those who disbelieve'; the actions of one who turns matters; by looking at their consequences; for their safety in their actions; and their benefits; and the quality of what they intend in appearance; like the quality of the heart in the body; 'in the lands'; for their fluctuation; 'is but a little enjoyment'; meaning: one who has high ambition does not care for it; and He expressed it with a tool of delay; indicating that their enjoyment - even if it is assumed that its duration is long; and its status is elevated - is trivial due to its end; then its consequence; and to the horror of that consequence; and the extent of its greatness; He said: 'Then their abode'; meaning: after the delay; if it is decreed; 'is Hell'; meaning: the hideous place of severe horrors; of great punishments; there is no resting place for them other than it; 'and wretched is the resting place'; meaning: the bed that is laid out; and facilitates for rest; and tranquility.
