Commentary
And when the response to this supplication occurred; so that its conditions may be fulfilled; which are the presence of His greatness (glorified and exalted is He); after knowing Him through evidence; and the continuity of His remembrance; and reflection on the wonders of His creation; and beginning with praise of Him - glorified is He - and exalting Him; and sincerity in asking Him; He said: ﴿So He responded﴾; meaning: He certainly brought about the response; ﴿for them﴾; Al-Asfahani said: "And from Ja'far al-Sadiq: Whoever is troubled by a matter; and says - five times - 'Our Lord'; Allah will save him from what he fears; and grant him what he desires; and he recited this verse"; and he indicated that it is from His [UNTRANSLATED-LATIN: manni] and His grace; by His saying: ﴿Their Lord﴾; meaning: the One who is good to them; the One who bestows upon them; ﴿Indeed, I do not waste the work of any worker among you﴾; whoever he may be; ﴿from male or female﴾.
And His saying - explaining -: ﴿Some of you are from some﴾; is a reference to His saying - glorified is He -: ﴿Indeed, the example of Jesus in the sight of Allah is like the example of Adam﴾ [Aal Imran: 59]; looking at His saying: ﴿Their descendants, some of them from others﴾ [Aal Imran: 34]; beginning with the fact that Allah - glorified and exalted is He - ﴿chose Adam and Noah﴾ [Aal Imran: 33]; proclaiming that all humanity is in servitude to the One; who is unlike anything; the Living, the Sustainer; equal; without any difference in that at all; and the intended meaning is that if they are like them in lineage; they are like them in reward for the deed.
And when He made their eyes rejoice with the response - and it had previously been mentioned about the Ansar generally; in His saying: ﴿And they rejoice in what has come to them of grace from Allah and bounty, and that Allah does not waste the reward of the believers﴾ [Aal Imran: 171] -; He specifically mentioned the Emigrants; clarifying their virtue; and increasing their honor; by their realization of being with Him; they did not find comfort in anyone else; and they did not lean towards anyone else; from family; nor wealth; by His saying - attributing to the mentioned promise; and detailing; and magnifying; and glorifying -: ﴿So those who emigrated﴾; meaning: they confirmed their faith by leaving their dearest people to them; in the religion that leads to separation; and their most beloved land to them.
And when the homeland has a place in the heart; it is not for anyone else; He alerted to it by His saying: ﴿And they were expelled from their homes﴾; meaning: it is the most preferred of the places to them; after they had distanced themselves from their families; and they are the closest of creation to them; and when harm is disliked for himself; not in relation to a specific one; he built for the affected his saying: ﴿And they were harmed﴾; meaning: by other than that of types of harm; ﴿In My cause﴾; meaning: because of the religion that I have adopted for them to be guided to Me; and I have judged that there is no reaching My pleasure without it; ﴿And they fought﴾; meaning: in My cause; and when killing itself is what is disliked; not in relation to a specific one; praise was built upon the undertaking of its causes; so he built for the affected his saying: ﴿And they were killed﴾; meaning: in it; so they exited by that from the abodes of their souls after departing from the dwellings of their bodies; and the reading of Hamzah and Al-Kisai; by advancing the passive form; conveys a stronger meaning; because it is more encouraging to advance against the opponents; for whoever seeks to kill has advanced upon the perils like the advance of a lion; and was killed; more specific than him; and no one stood before him; so it is as if it was said: 'And they intended to kill'; this in regard to the human himself; and it is permissible that the address is to the group; so the meaning would be: 'And they fought after they saw many of their companions had been killed'; ﴿I will certainly expiate for them their misdeeds﴾; as their earlier question to me in that; knowing from them that no one will be able to truly appreciate Allah as He deserves; (p-163) even if he strives; ﴿And I will surely admit them﴾; meaning: by My grace; ﴿Gardens beneath which rivers flow﴾; as was previously promised; ﴿As a reward﴾; and although it is based on their deeds - it is a favor from Him; and greatness; by His saying: ﴿From Allah﴾; meaning: the one described by the beautiful names; from which is generosity; and mercy; for their deeds do not equal the least of His blessings; ﴿And Allah﴾; meaning: the one who has majesty and honor; and He alerted to the greatness of the one spoken of by the preposition 'with'; so He said: ﴿With Him﴾; meaning: in the treasures of His kingdom; which are of the utmost greatness; ﴿The best reward﴾; meaning: and it is that which has no trace of bitterness in it; because it encompasses the ability; unlike others.
