Commentary
And when Allah - glorified and exalted is He - is the complete owner of the kingdom; He is the one with absolute authority; upon whom nothing is obligatory; and nothing is unbecoming of Him; He indicated this by His saying - teaching them; repeating the attribute of benevolence; as a reminder for more supplication; and humility; and submissiveness -: ﴿Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us﴾; then He indicated the truth of this promise with the particle of elevation; which indicates obligation; and necessity; saying: ﴿upon Your messengers﴾; meaning: in the manifestation of the religion; and victory over the enemies; and good end; and inheritance of Paradise; as in His saying (exalted is He): ﴿And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 25]; and in the supplication for that is an indication that nothing is obligatory upon Allah - glorified and exalted is He - even if His truthful promise has preceded it; even if we believe that His words are not changed before Him; ﴿And do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection﴾; meaning: by being held accountable for the sins; then He guided them to encouragement; and incitement; while reminding them of what He first indicated; that nothing is obligatory upon Him; by saying - expanding for them the pleasure of companionship through addressing them -: ﴿Indeed, You do not fail in the appointment﴾.
