And when it was from what was purchased by disbelief, the return of the hypocrites from 'Uhud', which was a reason for our delaying for them, Allah, glorified and exalted is He, said: ﴿And let not those who disbelieve think﴾; meaning: in Allah; and His Messenger; ﴿that our delaying﴾; meaning: our delaying; and our extending; ﴿is better for themselves﴾; and when He negated good for them with this prohibition, the soul longed for what is for them; so He said: ﴿Indeed, we delay for them﴾; meaning: as a means of leading them on; ﴿so they may increase in sin﴾; and this is all that the eternal knowledge has preceded regarding that they will do it; so when it reaches the end, it necessitates the taking; and when the return that reveals safety is a source of their honor in this fleeting abode; for those who thought well of that opinion; they were compensated for it with constant humiliation; so Allah, glorified and exalted is He, said: ﴿And for them is a humiliating punishment﴾.
