Commentary
And when the acceptance of Nu'aym and the caravan of 'Abd al-Qays for that arrangement, which is one of the causes of disbelief, took place; they exchanged disbelief for faith. He followed this with his saying: "Indeed, those who have exchanged disbelief"; meaning: they took it, "for faith"; meaning: they left it. And he emphasized the negation of harm and affirmed it; he said: "They will not harm Allah"; meaning: the One for whom there is no equal; "anything"; for what He intends - glorified and exalted is He - of elevating Islam and its people. And he concluded with his saying: "And for them is a painful punishment"; for what they have attained of the pleasure of the exchange in that trade; as is customary in every renewal of profits and benefits.
