Commentary

And when He rewarded them - glorified and exalted is He - for such things; by what happened to them from their victory with safety; and the spoils; by the grace of the One who possesses the attributes of perfection; and is free from all deficiency; by what He has of the cloak of greatness and majesty; and He encouraged them towards what is with Him; to appoint them to it; He followed that with what increases their insight that the one who frightens them is weak in his scheming; and his matter is easy; light; feeble; foolish; and he is the devil; and He presented that as a reasoning for what preceded it from their possession of virtue; and their distance from evil; that their ally is Allah; and their enemy is the devil; and He said - turning towards them with an increase in their motivation; or their encouragement; and their affirmation -: "Indeed, that is you"; meaning: the speaker who has preceded that it is the people; "the devil"; meaning: the banished, distant, burning one.

And when the saying was attributed to him; because he was the one who adorned it for them; until their hearts absorbed it; and their chests were filled with it; it was as if it was said: So what could he possibly do? He said: "He frightens"; meaning: he frightens you; "his allies"; but he omitted the first object; indicating that his frightening leads to the fear of his allies; because the allies of the Most Merciful, if they remain steadfast for His sake, He will fulfill for them what He promised them of victory over the allies of the devil; and that whoever fears his frightening; and acts according to the cause of his fear; then in him is an allegiance to him; which corrects his association with him; whether it is little or much.

And when the meaning was that he confuses with fear from his allies; it resulted in the prohibition against fearing them; so He said: "So do not fear them"; meaning: because their ally is the devil; "and fear Me"; meaning: so do not disobey My command; and do not ever lag behind My Messenger; "if you are believers"; meaning: distancing yourselves from the allies of the devil; by the description of faith.
