Commentary
And when their reliance on Allah was a cause for their success, He said, "So they turned back"; meaning: that was a cause for them to turn back; that is, from the direction they had gone with the Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him, "by grace"; and He magnified it by attributing it to the Greatest Name; He said, "from Allah"; meaning: the One who has all perfection; "and bounty"; meaning: from the world what was pleasing to them of good praise; by the truth of the promise; and the firmness of determination; and the greatness of the annihilation; and the boldness to what they attained with their Lord while they were in a state of "no harm touched them"; meaning: from the enemy they were frightened of; nor anything else; "and they followed"; meaning: with that, by their obedience to the Messenger of Allah, blessings and peace be upon him, to the utmost of their effort; "the pleasure of Allah"; meaning: the One who has majesty and beauty; so they attained His greatest bounty; "and Allah"; meaning: the One who has no equal; "is the Possessor of great bounty"; meaning: in both abodes; upon whom He is pleased with; so you will see above what you hope for; let the responder rejoice; and let the one who lags behind be grieved and saddened; and for the greatness of the matter, He repeated the Greatest Name many times.
