Commentary
﴿They are joyful for what Allah has given them﴾; that is: the one encompassing all perfection; among that is the great victory; ﴿from His bounty﴾; because if He were to hold them accountable for the least blessing of His blessings, their entire deeds would not be sufficient for it; because their deeds are among His blessings; so He informed us - glorified and exalted is He - of this; as a consolation; and a good comfort that nothing has missed from them except the life of hardship which no one has any hope of its continuation; even if the duration is long; and they have the life of purity which has no separation; and no end to its bliss; with no grief that befalls them; nor trial that touches them; nor sadness that affects them; nor astonishment that befalls them at the time of resurrection; nor otherwise; so there is no negligence for them; so that was a means of removing the sorrow of those they left behind; and an encouragement for them towards the means that lead to a state like theirs; and this - and Allah - glorified and exalted is He - knows - is the meaning of the testimony; that is: they do not have a state of absence; because the eternal life without hardship is essentially like that.
