And when the proportion of the calamity to them perhaps misled those whose feet have not firmly settled in divine knowledge that some actions are outside of what He (glorified and exalted is He) intends; He said: ﴿And whatever has afflicted you﴾; and when the war consumed that day; he removed the barrier; and said: ﴿On the day the two groups met﴾; meaning: the party of Allah; and the party of Satan; at 'Uhud'; ﴿By the permission of Allah﴾; meaning: by enabling the One who has complete greatness; and His decree; and affirming that this is by His permission similar to what was mentioned at the beginning on the day the two groups met; regarding the proportion of giving life; and causing death to Him.

And when the decree was: to discipline you by it; he added to it His saying: ﴿And so that He may make evident the believers﴾; meaning: the truthful in their faith;
