Commentary
And when He commanded them to hasten, and followed it with its reason and result, He forbade them from what would hinder them from it, due to the weakness that befell them when they saw death. He said - and it is permissible to connect it to what you may interpret: 'So verify; and be guided; and take admonition; if you are God-fearing; and look at Our taking of those before you from the people of falsehood; even if they had dominion and power and cunning and schemes' -: 'And do not weaken'; meaning: in the struggle against your enemies who are the enemies of Allah; for Allah is with you against them; and even if they appeared on the day of 'Uhud' in a type of appearance, you will see to whom the matter will return; 'And do not grieve'; meaning: over what has befallen you from them; nor over anything else that may befall you; while the case is that you are the uppermost; meaning: in both abodes; 'if you are believers'; meaning: if faith - which is the affirmation of all that comes from Allah - is a firmly established characteristic for you; then they will not weaken; for you are between one of the two good outcomes - just as those who will narrate to you their news, from those who were with the prophets before you, did not weaken; for your enemy is exalted; as for in this world; it is because your religion is the truth; and their religion is falsehood; and your Lord is the Almighty, the Wise, who has promised you the truth, the Great King, for whoever is killed; and victory and support for whoever remains; and He is alive, Sustaining; and nothing of your conditions is hidden from Him; for He is your supporter and your helper; and as for in the Hereafter; it is because you are in a seat of truth with a Powerful King; and they are in the Fire; with the angels of severe and harsh punishment forever.
