Commentary
And when He completed the description of the predecessors; and they are the pious; and the successors; and they are the repentant; He said - informing of their reward which they hastened to attain from forgiveness; and Paradise; indicating to them with a tool of distance; to magnify their status; in a way that informs that no one can truly appreciate Allah -: ﴿Those﴾; meaning: the ones of high rank; ﴿Their reward is forgiveness﴾; meaning: for their shortcomings; or for their lapses; or for their sins; and He magnified it by saying: ﴿From their Lord﴾; meaning: the One who bestows upon them every kind of goodness; and He followed that with honor; saying: ﴿And Gardens﴾; meaning: what gardens; then He clarified their greatness; by saying: ﴿Underneath which rivers flow﴾; while you are; ﴿Abiding therein﴾; it is their reward for their deeds; ﴿And how excellent is the reward of those who work﴾; this is; this is on the assumption that the reference is to all those described; even if it is specifically for the seekers of forgiveness; the matter is clear in the descending of their ranks from those before them.
