Commentary
And when it was informed that it is for the doers of good towards others; and for those who are similar to them; it was informed that it is for those below them in rank; from among the repentant doers of good towards themselves; to attract those who have turned back from 'Uhud'; from among the hypocrites; and others from the sinners; He said: ﴿And those who when they commit﴾; meaning: they act with knowledge; or ignorance of the act; ﴿a shameful deed﴾; meaning: from the major sins; ﴿or wronged themselves﴾; meaning: by any type of sin; so that the shameful deed becomes promised to be forgiven specifically; and generally; ﴿they remember Allah﴾; meaning: with what He has of perfect greatness; so they felt shy of Him; and feared Him; ﴿then they sought forgiveness﴾; from Allah; meaning: they sought forgiveness through repentance; with its conditions; ﴿for their sins﴾; meaning: for indeed He forgives them; for He is Most Forgiving for whoever repents.
And when this indicates that He (Exalted is He) forgives every sin; He followed it by affirming that; and negating the ability to do so for others; because the forgiveness of the created being does not apply to a sin except if it is from what Allah has legislated to be forgiven; so there is no forgiver in reality except Allah; He said - encouraging to turn to Him; by intercession between the two sympathizers -: ﴿And who forgives sins﴾; meaning: He erases their traces; so that they are not mentioned; nor are they recompensed for them; ﴿except Allah﴾; meaning: the Most High King; and when He - glorified and exalted is He - has favored by lifting the pen from the heedless; He said: ﴿And they do not persist in what they have done while they know﴾; meaning: that they are upon a sin.
