Commentary
And when beauty is with wealth; especially with spending; it is one of the greatest motivators for allegiance; and this verse has made its beauty ugly; and its generosity stingy; Allah, glorified and exalted is He, said - repeating the warning about the cunning of those with wealth; and beauty; who want to cause discord among them from the Jews; and the hypocrites; so that their matter may diminish; and their power may vanish: "O you who have believed"; meaning: with a true faith; whose claim is confirmed by righteous deeds, the greatest of which is love for Allah; and hatred for Allah; "Do not take as allies"; meaning: those whom you confide in with your secrets; and whom you exclusively show affection (p-38) and sincerity; and exchange money; and loyalty; "other than yourselves"; meaning: they are not from you, O believers; and this expression indicates that they are belittling themselves and lowering themselves from their high rank by their affection for them; then He described them as a reason for the prohibition by saying: "They do not spare you any effort"; meaning: they do not hold back from you in terms of corruption; then He clarified that by saying, also as a reason: "And they wish for your hardship"; meaning: they desire your difficulty.
And when this may be hidden; He clarified it by saying - providing a reason -: "Hatred has already appeared from their mouths"; meaning: it is evident in itself; despite their efforts to conceal it; because when a person is filled with something, it overflows from him; but because of your good opinion of them; and the purity of your intentions; you do not contemplate it; so contemplate; then He informed about His knowledge - glorified is He - with certainty; and the knowledge of the discerning among His servants by analogy, as a supposition; by saying: "And what their breasts conceal is greater"; than what has appeared as a result of overflow; then He resumed with a statement of incitement and provocation by saying: "We have certainly made clear"; meaning: with what we have of greatness; "to you"; meaning: with these statements; "the signs"; meaning: the indicators of the happiness of the two abodes; and the knowledge of the wretched; and the happy; and the opposer; and the supporter; and He intensified their incitement by saying: "If you"; meaning: by nature; and disposition; "understand."
