Commentary
And when He criticized - glorified and exalted is He - the disbelievers for their misguidance; then for their leading others astray; He commanded the believers to be guided in themselves; and followed it with the command for guiding others by gathering together; and the command for gathering together, which is emphasized by the prohibition against division, perhaps indicates obligation; for the uniqueness of everyone in every aspect of worship; at all times; in a manner of gathering; while turning away from any obstacle to that; whether it is a means or not; in relation to each individual; He followed it with His saying - alerting to the satisfaction of performing that in general; whether it is by some or all; as is the case with the obligations of communal duties -: "And let there be from you a community"; meaning: a group that is suitable for others to seek it; and some of them should intend for others; so that it becomes the most united and gathered in every time; on the basis of "they call"; renewing that at all times; "to good"; meaning: by striving; and teaching; and preaching; and reminding.
And when every good was general; He specified; so that what is specified is commanded twice; as a sign of His great matter; and high status; He said: "And they enjoin what is right"; meaning: from the religion; "and they forbid what is wrong"; in it; such that no time is free from a people standing firm in that; and it is a reminder to them to adhere to what the Messenger - blessings and peace be upon him - and those with him from his companions - may Allah be pleased with them - did in their enjoining what is right; and forbidding what is wrong; when the devil provoked them with the cunning of Sha's ibn Qays; in reminding of grudges; and animosities; and resentments; and an indication that remembrance benefits the believers.
And when this context indicates that the estimation is: "For indeed, they attain thereby much good; and for them is an everlasting bliss"; He added to it - encouraging -: "And those"; meaning: the high in rank; the great in benefit; "they are the successful"; truly successful; so He clarified - glorified and exalted is He - that the gathering commanded is only with hearts making them like a single body; and it does not harm in it to divert some of the times to livelihood; and to indulge the body with some permissible things; although the most complete is to direct all with the intention to worship.
