Commentary
And when it was established by this that His knowledge encompasses all things, it necessitated the completeness of His power, as He demonstrated in Ta-Ha. He said, indicating that and mentioning the nearby cause in provision after mentioning the distant one, for acknowledging that this cause is from Him necessitates acknowledging that the cause itself is also from Him: ﴿And if you ask them who sent down﴾ according to the gradual progression based on what [He did] in provision. [And when it was possible that a claimant might assert that he extracted water and brought it down from a mountain or the like, He mentioned what is specific to Him, glorified is He, free from the claims of the claimants, and said]: ﴿From the sky water﴾ after it had been established in the direction of elevation (p-473) ﴿And He revived﴾ [And when most of the earth is revived by the rainwater without the need for irrigation, He placed the preposition first and said]: ﴿With it the earth﴾ the barren, and by affirming the preposition, He indicated the proximity of growth from the time of death. [And that they do not know the existing tangible particulars, nor do their minds penetrate the universal intelligibles as the people of faith do, to know that what He, glorified is He, has brought into existence at a time is indeed existing either by His creation when He wills, for the earth is alive by His reviving, glorified is He, due to the rain in all the time that is after death by His power, just as it is alive in some of it by action.] He said: ﴿After its death﴾ so it became green, swaying after there was nothing of that in it. And He confirmed for what is similar to what has preceded from the indication that their state in denying resurrection is like the state of one who denies that Allah is the creator of that, due to the necessity of the power over it being the power over resurrection [by His saying: ] ﴿They will surely say Allah﴾ and He is the One whose perfection is complete, so they are required to affirm His oneness.
So when it was established that He is the Creator, both at the beginning and in resurrection, as is observed in every time, He said, alerting to the greatness of His attributes, which are necessary from affirming them, the truthfulness of His Messenger, blessings and peace be upon him: ﴿Say﴾ marveling at them in their rigidity, where they acknowledge what necessitates their oneness and then do not affirm it: ﴿All praise﴾ meaning: the encompassing of all attributes of perfection ﴿is for Allah﴾ who has no equal and no one other than Him has the encompassing of anything from the things, so they are required to provide proof based on what (p-474) they have acknowledged of His encompassing, while they do not affirm that by turning away from it ﴿But most of them do not understand﴾ [meaning: they do not have a renewed understanding, some of them completely because he died as a disbeliever] where they acknowledge the meaning of praise in that He is the Creator of all things, both at the beginning and in resurrection, and then they do what contradicts that by associating others with Him from what they acknowledge that He created, and they do not rely on Him in all matters, land and sea, and they direct worship solely to Him, so they do not know the meaning of praise since they do not act upon it. [And among them is one who believed after that, so he was at the pinnacle of the completeness of reason in the oneness that is followed by all branches, and among them is one who was below that, so the negation of knowledge from him was constrained by completeness.]
