Commentary
And when glorified and exalted is He made the matter of provision easy with His address to the believers after He had certainly conveyed a warning to the disbelievers with clarity of speech, and by giving examples, and by being gentle in discussion during debate, and when the king cannot have full control over providing for those outside his kingdom, He said, [addressing in a manner like: 'So if you were to ask them about that, they would certainly confirm you'] (p-470), returning to appealing to those who turn away, and being gentle with the heedless, following the paths of wisdom in the admonition. For indeed, if the master has two servants: one who is righteous and one who is corrupt, he advises the corrupt one, and if he does not listen, he turns to the righteous one, turning away from him, saying: 'This one does not deserve to be addressed, so listen you and do not be like him.' Thus, his words included advice for the righteous and a reprimand for the corrupt. Then, if he hears the admonition of his brother, that would move him after being stirred by turning away and by the blame for his poor judgment of himself and lack of understanding. So when he addresses him after this, he finds him ready to accept, inclined towards agreement, and repulsed by disagreement: ﴿And if you were to ask them﴾ meaning: the believer and others, and the main intent is for him: ﴿Who created the heavens and the earth﴾ and the like of them in this great order ﴿And He has subjected the sun and the moon﴾ for the purpose of providing sustenance, and knowing the times, and other benefits.
And when their state in denying resurrection is like that of one who denies that glorified and exalted is He created this existence, He emphasized the warning that acknowledging that necessitates acknowledging resurrection, so He said: ﴿They will certainly say: Allah﴾ meaning: the One who has all the attributes of perfection for what has been established in their innate nature from that and what they have received from their forefathers in agreement with the truth of the matter.
And when the state of one whose ambition has been diverted from Him is astonishing, deserving to be asked about (p-471) in a manner of astonishment at him, indicating that there is no justification for it, He said: ﴿So how﴾ meaning: how and from what direction ﴿are they being turned away﴾ meaning: diverted from one who does not rely upon Him or does not dedicate worship to Him in all his states, and all his sayings and actions, from being sincere to Him while acknowledging that He has no partner in creation, so his face would be turned away from Him, and he would see things contrary to what they are, and he would fall into confusion and the bewilderment of the strange.
