And when the decree was an explanation for the command with this saying: 'Indeed, We have sent down their books to their messengers,' he added to it his saying, addressing the head specifically so that no stubborn person could bring a charge against the generality or accusation regarding what was sent down to him: 'And likewise' meaning: and similar to that sending down which We sent down to their prophets, 'We have sent down to you the Book' meaning: this Qur'an which is the Book in reality, not a book other than it in the height of its perfection, in its composition and its discourse, confirming what is before it: 'So those' meaning: it resulted from Our sending it down on this methodology that those 'to whom We have given' [meaning:] a giving that befits Our greatness, so they came to know the truth from falsehood, 'the Book' meaning: previously 'they believe in it' meaning: in this Book truly like Abdullah ibn Salam and Mukhayriq, may Allah be pleased with them, or metaphorically by knowing it along with disbelief like Huyayy ibn Akhtab and many of them. 'And among these' meaning: the Arabs 'is one who believes in it' meaning: likewise in truth and metaphorically in the knowledge of the unseen that it is true for what He established from the proof of that by their inability to oppose it while disbelieving in it. And the clearest evidence for what you intended from the truth and metaphor is His saying: 'And no one denies' meaning: denies from the two groups after knowledge. Al-Baghawi said: Qatadah said: denial only occurs after knowledge. 'With Our signs' which have attained the utmost limits of greatness until they deserved the addition to Us, 'except the disbelievers' meaning: those entrenched in concealing knowledge after its manifestation, hoping to extinguish its light.
