Commentary

And when the context was for the affirmation of the Day of Judgment and the destruction of the corrupt, and for those who have long been tested among the righteous and have not found a supporter from their people, either due to their estrangement from them or due to the smallness of their clan because of their designation and the lack of followers, and Shu'ayb, peace be upon him, was among those whom his people weakened and considered his clan to be a small group, and a small group is less than ten or from seven to ten, and less than seven to three individuals. So he, peace be upon him, was likewise in this count. He followed the story of Lut with his story, blessings and peace be upon him, and he said: "And to" meaning: And indeed We sent to (p-436) "Madyan his brother" meaning: from the lineage and the land "Shu'ayb."

[And when the aim of the surah is the command to do good and the prohibition of wrongdoing without any delay, he expressed it with the conjunction 'fa' and said]: "So he said" meaning: So it resulted from his sending and he followed it by saying: "O my people, worship Allah" meaning: the Most High King alone, and do not associate anything with Him, for indeed the worship that contains association is null, because Allah, the Exalted, is free from partners, so He does not accept except what is purely for Him.

And when the context was for establishing the proofs of resurrection, which is one of the objectives of the surah, he said: "And hope for the Last Day" meaning: the good reward in it so that you may do what is appropriate for that "and do not cause corruption in the land" while you are "corrupting" meaning: intentionally causing corruption.
