And when the trial of Ibrahim, blessings and peace be upon him, was great in being thrown into the fire and being expelled from his land, He followed it by saying: ﴿And Ibrahim﴾ meaning: And indeed We sent Ibrahim. It may be that the intended meaning is: And mention Ibrahim, your greatest father, so that you may emulate him and find solace, and your people may take admonition from his story. However, His saying: "And to Madyan" supports the first interpretation, and it indicates his promptness in complying with His saying: ﴿When﴾ meaning: at the time, which serves as a substitute for the second intended meaning due to the inclusion of the times that precede it. ﴿He said to his people﴾ those who are from them: ﴿Worship Allah﴾ meaning: the greatest King, by what He commands you of obedience to Him. ﴿And fear Him﴾ meaning: fear Him in that you do not associate anything with Him, for indeed He will punish you. ﴿That﴾ meaning: the great matter which is your sincerity in your worship of Him and your piety. ﴿Is better for you﴾ meaning: than everything. ﴿If you know﴾ meaning: [If you are] among those who have sound instincts, you will say: Indeed, it is better, meaning: you believe that and act accordingly. And if you do not act upon that, then you are among the mute animals, rather more misguided, for they are guided to what benefits them and they strive with all their effort towards it.
