And when the context was about the trial and harm in Allah, which is a certain matter, it was stated without 'if.' The disbelievers were trying to tempt those who had embraced Islam in the beginning. He, glorified and exalted is He, mentioned some of what they used to say to them during the trial, out of ignorance of Allah and delusion. He said, marveling at them, (p-401) connecting it to ﴿And among the people are some who say﴾ [Al-Ankabut: 10] ﴿And those who disbelieved said﴾, being deceived by Allah and boldly against His strong protection. ﴿For those﴾ means: for a group of those who say with their tongues: 'We have believed in Allah,' and they are those who ﴿truly believed﴾, out of ignorance of what had mixed with their hearts from the joy of faith and the lights of knowledge. ﴿Follow﴾ means: you are commanded to follow ﴿our path﴾, meaning: the way of our religion. They connected their promise of reward to their following of it with the wording of command, indicating that it is certain without doubt. They said: ﴿And we will carry your sins﴾ with a truthful promise and a certain decree, if what you say is true, then we must have a return in which we will be held accountable for sins. If they had known, by my life, what the news is, on the day they will say: 'There is no escape,' they would not have exposed themselves to this danger, on the day when every person would wish to ransom himself with his wealth, his children, his spouse, his brother, his friend, and his father. Their words would be - even if it is a matter - in the meaning of the news, because it is a promise that He, glorified and exalted is He, has denied, as its meaning is: if a sin is written upon you, we will carry it for you with a promise that has no contradiction in it. ﴿And they are not﴾, meaning: the disbelievers ﴿carrying﴾ either outwardly or inwardly ﴿any of their sins﴾, meaning: the believers ﴿of anything﴾, while they are able not to carry, or a burden that lightens the punishment for them, meaning: that when they witness those conditions, and their minds are bewildered in the seas of those horrors, which the mountains cannot withstand, (p-402) they will disavow those who said to them this statement. They have informed of what does not correspond to reality, and it is possible that they deliberately lied when informing if their intention was that they would not fulfill according to the estimation of the realization of recompense. And when it became known from this their lying in every case, whether they intended or not, He stated it explicitly to emphasize the content of what preceded it, confirming for the sake of the assumption of those who were deceived by them of their truthfulness in His saying [continuing]: ﴿Indeed, they are liars﴾.
