Commentary
And when the Most High informed about the end of their affair with Him, it was a relief for the listener by gathering the two ends of the story in general and enticing them to the detail of that generality. It was also a hastening to inform about their mistakes so that their ignorance, which is the root of their misfortune, would be surrounding the beginning of the speech and its end. He informed about what was said at the time of his being picked up, saying, in addition to ﴿فالتَقَطَهُ﴾ [Al-Qasas: 8] ﴿وقالت امرأت فرعون﴾, meaning: to Pharaoh when she took him out of the chest. She is the one whom Allah decreed to have happiness, and she is Asiya bint Muzahim, one of the women of the Children of Israel, as reported by Al-Baghawi: ﴿قُرَّتُ عَيْنٍ لِي﴾, meaning: with him ﴿ولَكَ﴾, meaning: O Pharaoh.
And when it was established for him that he was among those with whom the eyes find comfort, this resulted in her keeping him alive. Therefore, she forbade his killing and feared that if she said: do not kill him, he would respond to her, carrying him to the truth, then he would order his killing. This would lead to her being saved from falling into breaking the promise. So she gathered, saying: ﴿لا تَقْتُلُوهُ﴾, meaning: you yourself and no one from those whom you command to do that. Then she justified that or continued, saying: ﴿عَسى﴾, meaning: it is possible, and he is deserving and worthy ﴿أنْ يَنْفَعَنا﴾, meaning: for what I imagine in him of intelligence, even if he has known parents ﴿أوْ نَتَّخِذَهُ ولَدًا﴾, if no parents are known for him, so his benefit would be greater, for he is worthy of being honored by kings.
And when all of this was the action of one who does not know, it is not correct for him to be a god. He made this clear as a refutation for those who obeyed him in claiming that, saying: ﴿وهُمْ﴾, meaning: they retracted this saying while they were ﴿لا يَشْعُرُونَ﴾, meaning: they have no awareness at all. For whoever does not have knowledge except by acquisition is like that. So how if he does not refine himself by his acquisition? How if he is stamped upon his heart? And if they are like that, they have no awareness of what their affair with him will lead to of the tremendous matters that will result in the destruction of the corruptors, so that they may work for that with actions of precaution against him that would save them.
